Openr

Empowering hospitality teams to take back control of their tech

TL;DR

Juggling multiple delivery platforms (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat) created a chaotic, multi-screen operational headache for restaurant staff trying to keep menus and orders in sync.

The challenge

My role

Leading a cross-functional UX team of product designers and user researchers to take Openr from an initial concept to a fully realised enterprise platform.

The big win

We transformed a fractured operational workflow into a single, centralised dashboard. This did not just streamline operations for in-house brands; it evolved an internal solution into a commercially viable SaaS product adopted by major external hospitality groups.

Taming the multi-screen chaos

For modern restaurants, delivery apps are a crucial revenue driver but a massive operational strain. Front-of-house and kitchen teams were forced to juggle multiple proprietary tablets just to update a single menu item or track incoming orders in real time.

Azzurri Group wanted to solve this friction for their own estate while building a solution powerful enough to serve the wider market. The goal was Openr: an all-in-one platform allowing teams to publish a menu once and instantly update it across every delivery aggregate.

Designing a zero-to-one B2B platform

As the UX lead, I guided my team through the end-to-end product lifecycle, balancing a high-level business vision with tactical, ground-level engineering execution.

Feature discovery & prioritisation
Facilitated collaborative ideation and user validation sessions to map out high-value features for busy restaurant environments.

Systemic design foundations
Defined and established core design system principles to ensure the platform interface could scale cleanly as new integrations were introduced.

Continuous delivery support
Implemented robust cross-functional ways of working, leading comprehensive developer handovers and providing close build support to protect design quality.

From internal tool to commercial asset

Openr completely streamlined how restaurant brands manage their digital storefronts, proving that complex enterprise software can feel intuitive to the end user.

Immediate internal rollout
Successfully deployed across major high-street brands including Zizzi, Ask Italian, and Coco Di Mama, dramatically reducing menu maintenance overheads.

Commercial scaling
The platform's operational success allowed Azzurri Group to commercialise the technology, successfully onboarding major external partners like the Stonegate Pub Company.
